I always get a tingle in the spine when a call comes in for a shoot at the McLaren Technology Centre – close encounters with McLarens heritage road and race cars, alongside their latest supercars and F1 cars invariably make for an exciting visit.

The iconic F1 XP5, the F1 GTR and the F1 XP LM are an eye-wateringly valuable trio of prototypes of Gordon Murray’s most renowned design.  We joined photographer Sam Chick and designer Peter Allen on The Boulevard within MTC for two successive nights to shoot them on site for a Magneto magazine feature.

The ‘Dark Metallic Green’ Experimental Prototype Number 5 holds the distinction of setting a production car record of 240.14mph at Ehra-Lessien proving ground, Germany in 1998.

The ‘Grand Prix Red’ GTR is chassis no.10R, marking the first road legal GTR built by McLaren.

The ‘Papaya Orange’ LM is Experimental Prototype Number 1, serving as the prototype for just five production LM’s that were built in honour of the five F1 GTRs that finished at Le Mans 1995.
