Mustard, Motorvated and Mint

Photographer: CGI
Art Director: Iain Ross, Motorvated Creative
CGI: Mint CGI
These images are the result of a self-driven creative, production, and digital collaboration between Mustard Post, Motorvated Creative, and Mint CGI. Created during lockdown, the project was a chance to study the full CGI workflow end-to-end — from initial strategy through to final delivery — without the usual constraints of a client brief.
The process:
Backplates and HDR dome environments were sourced from an automotive stock library, giving us accurate real-world lighting data to build from. The CGI Bentley Continental GT was then built into the scene using Maya / Vray, utilising the dome’s lighting so the car sits believably within the environment rather than looking composited on top of it.
From there, the image moved through Mustard’s usual grading and retouching workflow — the same process we’d apply to a photographed car — to bring the CGI and the backplate together into one cohesive, photorealistic final image.
Why it matters: with no client deadline or budget constraints, this project let us push the CGI-to-retouch pipeline further than a typical commercial brief allows — refining exactly how CGI and real-world environments are matched, lit, and graded together. It’s the same process behind our fully commissioned CGI work (Bentley Bentayga Speed, Norton ManxR), just with the freedom to experiment.
